Day 1
Antananarivo - Andasibe
After breakfast, we head towards Andasibe. Along the way we stop to visit the Peyrieras Reserve: geckos, butterflies, crocodiles, Verreaux's sifaka lemurs, reptiles and chameleons - the visit lasts about an hour. Lunch, then we continue on to Perinet. On arrival, check in at the hotel, and in the afternoon we visit the private Vakona Reserve ("Lemur Island"), where it's easy to get close to and enjoy the lemurs. After the visit, return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight at the Feon'ny Ala hotel or similar.
Day 2
Park visit and Antananarivo
Breakfast, then a half-day exploring Mantadia National Park, home to numerous forest species, most notably the Indri-Indri, the largest lemur on the island. After the visit we return to our hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, we leave Andasibe and head to Antananarivo. Check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight at the Sun City hotel or similar.
Day 3
Antananarivo - Antsirabe
In the morning, we leave Antananarivo by car for Antsirabe, crossing pretty highland scenery with its terraced rice paddies. We stop in Ambatolampy to visit a recycled aluminum foundry. On arrival in Antsirabe, we check in at the hotel. We then visit the town, the semi-precious stone-cutting workshops, and craftspeople hand-making the splendid embroidered tablecloths that are one of Madagascar's trademarks. Note that we can also take a rickshaw ride. Dinner and overnight at the Hasina hotel or similar.
Day 4
Antsirabe - Ambositra - Fianarantsoa (240 km, approx. 6 hours)
Departure from Antsirabe after breakfast. Arrival in Ambositra after a 2-hour drive, the "town of Malagasy craftsmanship". Visit workshops producing Malagasy arts and crafts, notably marquetry, and browse the boutiques. We continue after lunch and arrive in Fianarantsoa after a 4-hour drive. Check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight at the Mahamanina hotel or similar.
Day 5
Fianarantsoa - Manakara by train
An early breakfast as the train departs at 7am; the car drops us at the station before heading for Manakara. The scenery is fabulous, and at each stop villagers sell their local specialties - be sure to grab a snack. Arrival in Manakara 7 to 8 hours later, where our car will be waiting at the station for the transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight at Les Antemoro hotel or similar.
Day 6
Visit to the Pangalanes Canal
Breakfast, then departure for a dugout canoe excursion along the Pangalanes Canal to a fishing village, with a visit to a vanilla plantation and an essential oil distillery. Our canoe guide prepares a meal for us on site. Possibility of swimming in the Indian Ocean. Return to Manakara in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at the same hotel.
Day 7
Manakara - Ranomafana
Departure for Ranomafana after breakfast. We cross lush green scenery dotted with traveler's palms (ravinala). On arrival, check in at the hotel and lunch. In the afternoon, a walking visit of the village: the hot spring baths, where you can bathe if you wish. We plan a night visit to the park. Overnight at the Yhary hotel or similar.
Day 8
Ranomafana - Ambalavao
Breakfast, then departure for a morning visit to Ranomafana National Park. After the visit, we head to Ambalavao, the "town of wine", with lunch on site and a visit to the Antaimoro paper-making workshop, the town's specialty. Dinner and overnight at Aux Bougainvillier hotel or similar.
Day 9
Ambalavao - Andringitra
Transfer to Andringitra after breakfast. Andringitra is located 47 km south of Ambalavao. We begin a roughly 3 to 4-hour hike accompanied by porters and a local guide, climbing to the campsite at the foot of the cliff, at 2,050 m altitude. Admire the panoramic view of the cliff and the two waterfalls, Riandahy and Riambavy. Overnight camping.
Day 10
Andringitra - Ambalavao - Ranohira
After breakfast, we climb towards Pic Boby for a 2-hour walk, its altitude ranging between 650 and 2,658 m. Magnificent scenery awaits us along the walk. Return to the parking area, then we continue our journey, stopping at the Anja village reserve for a one-hour visit. We continue on, crossing the beautiful scenery of the south. Arrival in Ranohira (Isalo). Check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight at Les Toiles de l'Isalo hotel or similar.
Day 11
Visit to Isalo National Park
Departure after breakfast for a visit to Isalo National Park. This walk requires sturdy shoes. We follow the Namaza circuit trail, where we can see numerous lemurs, then continue on to the Blue Pool and the Black Pool, as well as the Nymphs' Waterfall. To unwind after this tiring day, we can take a swim in the natural pool. We then head back. Dinner and overnight at the same hotel.
Day 12
Ranohira - Tuléar - Ifaty
We leave Ranohira for Ifaty. We stop at the Antsokay Arboretum for a one-hour visit, a botanical garden with over 900 species of plants endemic to the south of the island. Lunch in Tuléar, then we continue on to Ifaty. Dinner and overnight at the Ifaty Beach Club hotel or similar.
Day 13
Ifaty
A day of relaxation. Several optional activities are available: snorkeling or scuba diving, an excursion into the baobab forest, and more. Dinner and overnight at the same hotel.
Day 14
Ifaty - Tuléar - Antananarivo
After breakfast, transfer to the airport, then flight to Antananarivo. End of services.
